NEW LOOK, BIGGER STAKES: Big changes to Northfield Park Racino including rebrand, new sportsbook & more

By Sean Chaffin

Some major changes have come to Northfield Park Racino, Ohio’s largest racino, that was formerly known as MGM Northfield Park. The property has been rebranded to reinforce the racino’s commitment to a top-notch gaming experience with a wide variety of Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) along with harness racing and simulcast wagering options to the venue, which opened on Aug. 23, 1957, and quickly became the region’s premier destination for harness racing.

Along with the new name, Northfield has added a new rewards program designed to elevate play through enhanced benefits. The full exterior rebrand of the property is expected to be completed within 75 days. The new logo honors the venue’s rich history in harness racing and features a square icon with an abstract horse mane, symbolizing the racino’s longstanding legacy while looking toward the future. More than a visual update, the icon is meant to reflect the property’s enduring spirit, pride, purpose and heritage.

Northfield Park Racino is further enhancing the gaming experience with the launch of a new players club and an expanded VLT footprint. The racino will also add hundreds of new games to the floor enhancing play for guests, particularly those seeking more exclusive gaming options. A new rewards card program has been introduced with more benefits and destination partnerships announced in the coming months.

Casino Player recently spoke with General Manager Kevin Brady about some of the changes and what players can expect when heading to one of Ohio’s top gaming destinations.

What was the idea behind the rebranding of the property and how did it come about?

The rebrand pays tribute to Northfield, Ohio, a village in northern Summit County, and honors the racino’s deep roots in harness racing, a cornerstone of the community for 69 years. The modernized logo features a square icon with an abstract horse mane, symbolizing the property’s proud legacy while looking toward the future. More than a visual update, the new identity reflects the racino’s enduring spirit, pride and purpose, as well as the heritage that has helped shape the surrounding community.

The new brand identity supports the property’s continued growth and evolution. Northfield Park Racino remains Ohio’s premier gaming and entertainment destination, offering a wide array of VLTs, dining options, live harness racing and exciting shows—all within a strong community setting. The focus is on honoring that legacy while introducing even more excitement through expanded gaming, rewards and promotions.

What is planned in regard to the new changes?

Northfield Park Racino promises to give guests more and bring back the fun and excitement. The racino is continuing to enhance the guest experience with the launch of a new players club, an expanded VLT offering and new food offerings and experiences. The gaming floor will soon feature 300 additional state-of-the-art VLTs, creating even more variety and excitement—especially for guests seeking premium and high-limit play options.

The new five-tier rewards program, NP Rewards, has officially launched, with all existing members seamlessly transitioned into the program. The brand promise is to provide guests with more fun, offers and rewards. Additional rewards, exclusive offers and destination partnerships in Las Vegas and the Caribbean will be announced in the coming months.

Guests can also look forward to an official grand opening celebration in July, featuring ribbon cuttings, live music, food, special events and lucrative promotions. The goal is to introduce more excitement to both new and existing guests. Guests are encouraged to bookmark the new website, northfieldparkracino.com, to stay up to date on all the excitement.

What dining options really stand out?

All the dining venues stand out because they offer something for every taste, making it hard to choose just one favorite. That said, Valley’s Edge Steak & Seafood represents the property’s top-tier dining experience, featuring wood-fired steaks, fresh seafood and creative chef specials. Guests can enjoy plush booths, intimate table seating or a spot at the full bar showcasing exquisite wines and handcrafted cocktails.

Equally impressive is The Buffet, a classic all you can eat experience reimagined with a Las Vegas flair. The Buffet features a rotating carvery with favorites such as bacon-wrapped turkey, prime rib, brisket and more. The live-action station is a guest favorite, offering freshly prepared dishes each day. With more than 65 menu items, an expansive dessert island and a wide beverage selection, no one leaves hungry.

The newest addition is Overtime Grill and Bar, offering a robust lineup of appetizers, stacked burgers, hearty sandwiches and fresh salads, along with an expanded selection of handcrafted cocktails, wines, hard seltzers and beer. Designed to elevate the classic sports bar experience, the lively atmosphere is filled with authentic sports memorabilia and big game energy.

For guests looking for something quick and delicious, Concerto Italian Kitchen delivers fresh, bold flavors. From personal, hand made pizzas topped with more than 30 authentic ingredients to chef crafted pastas, sandwiches, salads and classic Italian desserts, every bite truly deserves a standing ovation.

How does management approach entertainment options and what are some key acts that have resonated? Are there some interesting options coming down the line?

Management has ambitious plans for Center Stage, the 1,800-seat entertainment venue, with an expanded show calendar designed to appeal to a broader audience. The diverse lineup continues to resonate, featuring popular comedians such as Lewis Black and Brad Williams, along with well-known TV personalities, including favorites from Hallmark Christmas films and William Shatner.

Music plays a central role in the property’s entertainment strategy. Recent and upcoming acts span multiple genres and generations, including Smokey Robinson, The Human League, The Stray Cats, Amy Grant, The Doobie Brothers and Buddy Guy.

Guests are encouraged to follow Northfield Park Racino on social media for the latest announcements. There are several unique offerings on the horizon for both Center Stage and the more intimate Neon Room. The directive from management is simple and clear: more entertainment.

What is the VLT scene like at the property? Any special promotions planned in the coming months?

The VLT experience at Northfield Park Racino is designed to deliver excitement and variety for every type of player. The dynamic gaming floor blends classic favorites with the latest titles, ensuring there is always something new to discover—whether guests are frequent players or first-time visitors.

A key differentiator is the property’s commitment to keeping the experience fresh and rewarding. Throughout the year, a wide range of promotions enhances play and adds value, from themed events and bonus play opportunities to exclusive giveaways and special drawings.

Looking ahead, guests can expect a steady lineup of creative promotions designed to reward loyalty while elevating the overall entertainment experience. One highlight worth noting: the $1 million Dragon Link grand prize has yet to be claimed. Players are invited to visit the high limit room and try their luck before someone else takes home the jackpot.

What are some special highlights or events for rewards club members?

Joining NP Rewards is the best way to fully experience everything Northfield Park has to offer. Membership is free and provides access to free-play earning, invitations to exclusive events and parties, and opportunities to win trips to destinations such as Las Vegas and the Caribbean.

One unique perk that sets the property apart is access to on-site amenities like a gas station and car wash. NP Rewards members enjoy fuel discounts, complimentary car washes and free valet parking.

Perhaps the biggest highlight is access to the property’s robust promotional calendar. Members can earn chances to win everything from boats, cars and gold to cash, free play and luxury trips. Northfield Park Racino is committed to delivering more rewards, more offers and more value at every level.

Clockwise from left: From premium cuts and fresh seafood at Valley Edge Steak & Seafood to authentic Italian favorites at Concerto Italian Kitchen, abundant selections at The Buffet and casual game-day fare at Overtime Grill & Bar, Northfield Park Racino offers a dining experience to satisfy every craving.

Beyond gaming, what’s the racing scene like?

Live harness racing remains a major attraction. Summer racing continues with the Summit County Fair Races on Aug. 1, paired with Northfield Park Racino’s grand opening celebrations. The outdoor apron will be filled with food, games, entertainment and top- tier racing action throughout the evening.

On Aug. 15, the G2 $300,000 Carl Milstein Memorial brings another elite field of competitors to the track. With more than 200 live races each year and simulcasts from tracks across the country and Australia, Northfield Park remains a premier destination for racing fans seeking nonstop action.
