TRIBAL GAMING 2025
Native American Gaming Continues Setting Records & Reinventing the Guest Experience
By Sean Chaffin
Tribal gaming remains a massive part of the American casino industry and the numbers certainly prove that. In February, the American Gaming Association (AGA) and the Indian Gaming Association (IGA) released the results of the AGA’s 2024 Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker. Total revenue from commercial casinos reached $71.92 billion, a 7.5% increase from 2023. IGA Executive Director Jason Giles also reported that tribal gaming generated more than $42 billion in revenue during 2024, bringing total U.S. gaming revenue to $115 billion.
“By all accounts, 2024 tells a positive story about our industry’s strength and momentum,” AGA President and CEO Bill Miller said. “Commercial gaming continues to demonstrate unprecedented continued success.”
That success is mirrored by the nation’s numerous tribal gaming operations as well, which includes casinos, sportsbooks, racing venues, online gaming, major operations outside traditional tribal lands, horse tracks and so much more. Beyond these big numbers, tribal casinos are much more than just corporate entities watching profit margins. These business enterprises have a direct impact on Native American groups across the country.
“These revenues are directly returned to our tribal communities and tribal citizens, not investors or shareholders,” Giles said. “The use of these revenues goes directly to the health and welfare of our tribal citizens on the reservation.”
That $42 billion is an increase from $40.9 billion in 2023, an increase of 2.6%, and shows that these operations aren’t just serving their people, but also pleasing customers and keeping them coming back. These casinos help provide much-needed services, employment opportunities, education and so much more for the residents of these communities. Many of these opportunities, economic benefits and tax funds extend well beyond the reservation.
The late Ernest L. Stevens, Jr., who served as chairman of the Indian Gaming Association until his passing on Sept.26, recently stated in Tribal Gaming & Hospitality magazine, “For over four decades, Indian gaming revenues have transformed the lives of tribal citizens and their neighbors. By law, tribal governments must reinvest gaming revenues into their economies, funding vital programs and services in education, healthcare, public safety, and infrastructure programs and services. This revenue also empowers tribes to exercise their sovereignty and uphold their treaty rights in a way that amplifies our voices.”
Tribal organizations continue to innovate and offer new and exciting opportunities for gamblers and are continually expanding and growing their operations. Here’s a look at some of what Native American casino properties have been up to and where these groups are headed.

In August, this popular Cajun State property unveiled a completely renovated Big Sky Steakhouse with a welcoming space rooted in Acadian design: repurposed 150-year-old doors, locally crafted woodwork, curated antiques and custom lighting. The facelift includes an updated menu inspired by the storied culinary traditions of the surrounding parishes. That includes prime dry-aged cuts, Gulf seafood like pan-seared black drum and Red Snapper Calcasieu, and classic Louisiana dishes such as oxtail gravy over buttery mashed potatoes.
The Coushatta Tribe also recently hosted a topping-out ceremony for the new hotel currently under construction. The event marked the placement of the final steel beam atop the resort’s new eight-story hotel. The event featured traditional Coushatta tribal dancers and attendance by members of the tribal council, casino management and local dignitaries.

The new resort features nearly 38,000 square feet, including 640 slot machines, 18 table games, a smoke-free gaming space with 104 slots, and a high-limit gaming area with 42 slots and four table games. The complex includes the first hotel built on the Brighton Seminole Reservation, with 100 rooms on four stories totaling 72,000 square feet. New dining options include a 24-hour restaurant, a steakhouse and a fast-service and carry-out cafe. Another new amenity is an indoor event space with 400 seats for performances, banquet events and bingo games.
