When riverboats were new in Louisiana, there were set boarding and disembarking times, as well as openings and closings. That’s no longer the case. The boats remain stationary and gaming continues 24 hours a day both on the boats and on land. Recent changes even now allow for gaming to take place on land and the new $300 million Live! Casino & Resort opened in February to become the Bossier City-Shreveport area’s first land-based property. The property is owned by the Cordish Companies and it will be interesting to see how it fares in the rankings in 2026 after a full year in operation.
This year, Best Overall Casino sees some change at the top with Golden Nugget Lake Charles retaking first place. The property stood five years in that position before dropping a single spot last year. The 242-acre waterfront resort features much more beyond the gaming floor including a marina, spa and golf course. The Nugget mined numerous awards including Best Video Slots, Best Quarter Slots, Best 50-Cent Slots, Best $5+ Slots, Best Slot Club, Best Slot Club Promotions and Friendliest Casino.
Second place went to L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles, which dropped a single spot. The property still resonates with readers and boasts 1,400 slots, 82 table games, and nice dining, cocktail and entertainment options. The casino secured awards for Best Penny Slots, Best Players Club Lounge, and came out in the top three in other categories as well.
Horseshoe Bossier City finished in this spot for the second-straight year and offers players 1,500 slots, 68 table games, a Caesars sportsbook, an excellent hotel with more than 600 rooms, seven restaurants and more. The property also has the best poker room in the area. The Horseshoe registered top honors for Best VIP Service and also finished among the top three in several other categories.
