Saving You Money in Las Vegas

I’ve discussed the $7.77 surf and turf special at Mr. Lucky’s at the Hard Rock before, but it deserves another mention as it one of the best specials in Las Vegas. The special includes four shrimp, a marinated rib eye steak, mashed potatoes and veggies. This special is available 24/7. Also, on Sunday’s, there’s a little known all-you-can-eat prime rib special that comes with mashed potatoes and veggies for only $9.99. Neither of these specials is listed on the menu, so you have to specifically ask for them.

At the LVH, the very popular “Cool By The Pool” is back again. Both guests and non-hotel guests are invited to enjoy the poolside happy hour daily from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. There are plenty of 2-for-1 drinks specials along with an assortment of food specials such as $2 shrimp cocktails and $3 ceviche. There is also live DJ entertainment. If that’s not enough to entice you, maybe you’ll be lucky enough to walk away with one of the fabulous prizes from the daily drawings. This free event at LVH’s pool is located on the floor pool deck.

At South Point Hotel and Casino you can play Bingo—for free—Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. There is a 10 game session offering a total of $1,000.00 in prize money. Also at South Point at Don Miguel’s from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday, there is a fantastic $9.95 lunch special. The special includes a frozen margarita, fideo soup and a choice of two menu items. Chose from enchilada, taco, flauta or chili rellano served with Mexican rice and refried beans.

At LBS Burger Joint at Red Rock there is a happy hour special from Monday-Thursday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Offered is a $7.77 burger and fries, a selection of $5 appetizers, signature $5 cocktails and $4 draft beer.

Don’t forget the Casino Player special at the Skyline Room at the Skyline Casino in Henderson. Every Tuesday-Saturday from 2 p.m. until closing, just mention this Strip Search column and you will get a BOGO free on ANY food item on their extensive menu. Drinks are excluded from this special. Highlights of this offer include two prime rib dinners for $10.95, two T-bone steak dinners for $12.95, two fried chicken dinners for $8.95 or two jumbo fried shrimp dinners for $10.95. All dinners are served with salad or the Skyline’s famous vegetable beef soup, potato and veggie.

There is a new free slot tournament at Margaritaville casino at Flamingo Las Vegas. The tournament is open to new or existing club members and is held every Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. When you enter, you play a three minute session to determine your score. Tournament results are posted at 3:30 p.m. The top prize is $500 in Reel Rewards (free slot play) with a total of five players winning—$400 in Reel Rewards for second place, $300 for third, and so on.

At Mermaids Casino and Bar on Fremont street, there are a lot of inexpensive food choices. For only 99-cents you can get a chocolate covered banana, a Nathan’s hot dog, a deep fried Twinkie or a deep fried Oreo.
